I made a post a couple of months ago about a project I was starting called Education Appreciation. I just wanted to do a little update on how this project was coming along.
A quick recap for those of you who are too lazy to read the original blog post:
I, and a couple of friends, are creating a system where people can send us letters or videos of them thanking a teacher. They can be current students or alumni and they can thank any teacher they want. We will then release these thank you messages to the public and to the teacher they thanked.
We were very excited about the project in the beginning. We created a Facebook page, Twitter, and a WordPress blog to get our project up and going. However after that, we all slacked off and were reluctant to advertise our project to our peers.
But good news! We got off of our butts and actually started publicizing our project through word of mouth and through Facebook. I am proud to say that we have around 17 submissions so far with many more pending. We are currently receiving our submissions through a Google form which makes it easy for us to file and organize the submissions.
Although most of our submissions are from fellow students at our high school, I am happy to report that we have a submission all the way from Canada! All of our submissions so far are messages, but I am hoping some videos will be submitted.
We are going to now start slowly releasing some of our submissions. We originally planned to do a mass release but we decided that a gradual approach was better.
A word of advice for anyone starting a large project: Get off of your butt and just DO IT. You’ll thank yourself later.
I hope the educators being thanked will appreciate our project and I am excited to see what else we get!
